How the Age Calculator Works
The calculator measures the gap between two dates: your date of birth and a target date that defaults to today. It counts your age the way people do in daily life, using the Gregorian calendar.
First it counts every complete year you have lived. Then it adds the leftover full months, and finally the remaining days. It also totals your whole life in months, weeks and days, and works out how many days remain until your next birthday.
Formula and Worked Example
Age is a date subtraction with a simple borrow rule, the same idea you use for subtraction by hand.
Years, months, days: subtract the birth date parts from the target date parts. If the day result is negative, borrow the number of days in the previous month and reduce months by one. If the month result is then negative, borrow twelve months and reduce years by one.
Example
Born June 15, 1990, measured on September 3, 2026. Days: 3 minus 15 is negative, so borrow the days in August (31): 3 plus 31, minus 15 is 19 days, and months drop by one. Months: 9 minus 6, minus 1 borrow, is 2 months. Years: 2026 minus 1990 is 36 years. Result: 36 years, 2 months, 19 days.

Age Methods and Edge Cases
Most countries use this "complete years" method, where you turn a year older on your birthday. A few systems count differently, and this tool does not model those.
